Step-by-Step Guide for Implementing a Fatigue Management Program

The North American Fatigue Management Program (NAFMP) has the potential to reduce fatigue-related crashes and improve commercial motor vehicle driver alertness, wellness and productivity. During this session, we reviewed a guide for motor carriers to develop, implement and evaluate a fatigue management program. We covered the five components of a fatigue management program: safety culture; fatigue risk management systems; scheduling practices and fatigue management technologies; sleep disorder screening and treatment; and education and training. Also, we addressed past challenges and limitations of the program and shared ongoing and upcoming enhancements.
