Credentialing

The Driver NAFMP Proficiency Credential is a formal recognition that a driver has mastered the knowledge and skills of the NAFMP. To obtain a Driver NAFMP Proficiency Credential, drivers must complete the Driver NAFMP Validated Learning and Assessment Program (VLAP) that will be available in the NAFMP eLearning Platform in the first quarter of 2026. The Credential will be valid for three years. This Program involves proficiency in

  • Understanding how the brainwave’s speed affects the state of alertness
  • Knowing how to leverage all forms of energy (light, sound, temperature, food) to drive and rest effectively
  • Knowing the dangers of sleep deprivation and sleep disorders and how to effectively resolve them
  • Using sleep architecture to their advantage as a driver
  • Recognizing objective signs of fatigue before risking your life and livelihood
  • Knowing fatigue management strategies in general, at home, on the road, night driving, team driving and changing shifts/time zones
  • Practicing the five keys to wellness to stay sharp, productive and healthy

While not required, drivers are encouraged to complete the NAFMP modules below as preparation for the Driver NAFMP VLAP:

  • Module 8 Driver Sleep Disorders Management
  • Module 9 Driver Scheduling and Tools
